Mark your calendars for Saturday, September 26, 2026, because Neighborhood Pet Store Day is coming—and at Natural Pet Food Solutions, we’re turning it into our biggest sale and celebration of the year!

But Neighborhood Pet Store Day is about much more than getting a great deal. It’s a day dedicated to celebrating the locally owned, independent pet stores that serve their communities every day—and the customers who make those stores possible.

What Is Neighborhood Pet Store Day?

Neighborhood Pet Store Day is a nationwide celebration of independent pet retailers and the important role they play in the lives of pets, their people, and their communities.

Independent pet stores offer something that's difficult to duplicate at a big-box store or online: personal relationships, knowledgeable staff, carefully selected products, and people who genuinely get to know you and your pets.

The goal of Neighborhood Pet Store Day is to remind pet parents that where they choose to shop matters. Supporting an independent pet store helps keep money in the local community while supporting businesses that provide personalized service, product knowledge, and a carefully curated selection for pets.

How Did Neighborhood Pet Store Day Start?

Neighborhood Pet Store Day was created by the Independent & Neighborhood Pet Retail Association (IndiePet), an organization founded in 2020 by independent pet business owners.

IndiePet created the celebration as a way to shine a national spotlight on what it calls the “Indie Difference”—the knowledge, service, relationships, unique products, and community involvement that independent pet retailers bring to the pet industry.

The first Neighborhood Pet Store Day was held in 2023, and it has grown into an annual celebration involving independent pet stores across the country.

Why This Day Means So Much to Us

When you shop with us, you're not just another order number. We know your pets. We know which foods they've tried, which treats they love, which proteins don't agree with them, and which new toy they absolutely need to take home.

We also get to choose what goes on our shelves. That means we can seek out quality foods, treats, supplements and products we believe in rather than simply stocking whatever a corporate office tells us to carry.

Most importantly, our customers make it possible for a small neighborhood pet store like ours to exist.

We're going BIG this year!

Neighborhood Pet Store Day will be our BIGGEST SALE OF THE YEAR, with the main celebration happening all day Saturday, September 26!

Stop by anytime Saturday during store hours for special deals, freebies, our prize wheel, donation drive, and plenty of fun surprises.

And come hungry! 🔥 We'll be firing up the grill for BBQ from 12–4 PM. The BBQ may be four hours, but Saturday's sale and festivities are happening ALL DAY LONG!

Can't make it on Saturday—or want to come back for more? Many of our special Neighborhood Pet Store Day sales will run all weekend, September 25–27!

While the BBQ, prize wheel, freebies and main festivities take place Saturday, September 26, many participating brands and products will be specially priced Friday through Sunday, giving you three days to take advantage of some of our biggest deals of the year.

This year, we're making the celebration about giving back, too.

We're partnering with Animal Aid of Portland for a special canned pet food donation drive. Purchase participating sale cans to donate during the event, and Natural Pet Food Solutions will match your donation can-for-can!

That means:

You buy 1 can → 2 cans are donated.
You buy 10 cans → 20 cans are donated.
You buy 50 cans → 100 cans are donated!

And with some sale cans available for as little as 20¢, a small contribution can turn into a whole lot of food for local animals in need.
